Science & Spirituality:

The Other Half of Each Other

Science looks outwards into the outer physical world, while spirituality looks inwards into the inner spiritual worlds. Scientists study how GOD's Universal laws manifest at the physical vibratory level, while spirituality studies how they manifest at higher vibratory levels. So there is no conflict between science and spirituality. They are each studying two different worlds. And the wisdom and understanding gained by each of these valid, helpful paths is indispensable to humanity's safe progress. In fact, the deep insights of both are needed if we are to wisely, compassionately and safely travel into the unknown future.

Einstein &

Newton

Two of the greatest scientists that have ever blessed the earth, Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton, both had a deep appreciation for the wise spiritual force that pervades and guides the evolution of the universe.  And over half of the scientists in the United States, including many outstanding Nobel Prize winners, believe in some sort of Benevolent Universal Intelligence. Perhaps we too can share in this deep spiritual appreciation of this Universal Presence. Then we will be more likely to use the crucial insights from both science and spirituality to help guide our small planet safely into the future.

And Sai Baba says:

"The two sciences - physical and spiritual -  can never clash; one compliments the other, for the sciences related to nature have bounds which they cannot cross.  They can study only the created; the Creator is the special field of study for religion.  One is the scientist; the other is a saint. The saint probes the root; the scientist peers into the area above the ground."

    - from: Sathya Sai Baba, Sanathana Sarathi, January Issue, 1983, p15

Perhaps, this is why Albert Einstein said:

“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”

Likewise, Einstein said:

"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom."

Intuition in Science

The greatest, most insightful advances of science - the ones that simplify and unify our understanding of the universe -  almost always arise from an inspired "intuitive leap".  And naturally these insightful "intuitive leaps" are nothing less than Divine Inspiration - although it is not always understood or appreciated as such.  That's why Einstein said:

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

When we receive these deeply insightful intuitive insights, we can't help but be enthralled with the mystery of it all.

Perhaps this is why Einstein said:

"The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious - the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science."

        - From, Living Philosophies, 1931

And Isaac Newton said:

"As a blind man has no idea of colors, so we have no idea of the manner by which the all-wise GOD perceives and understands all things."

And Sai Baba Says:

"The more man discovers the secrets and mysteries of the cosmos, the more he will realize that GOD is the Creator and Motivator of all Creation."

Science & Spirituality - The Best of Both

So it turns out that there is no gap between science and spirituality when we embrace both with an open heart and open mind.  Each reinforces the other. Thus, in using both a spiritual and scientific approach to understanding life we can gain from the best of both worlds and build a synergistic understanding that is greater than the sum of the parts.

After all, it is the Universal Presence of Divine Mind which allows us to understand scientific truths in the first place.  And as Sathya Sai Baba says:

"There is an invisible Divine Power which underlies all that is seen in the phenomenal Universe. It is because of that power that we are able to perceive the Universe."

- Sathya Sai Baba, Sanathana Sarathi, June 1995 Issue,  page 144

And as we begin to grasp the vastness of GOD's Infinite Reality, we become very humble and grateful.

It is no wonder that Einstein said:

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.

So let us go forward happily and gratefully using the best of both worlds - the gifts of Science (Divine Mind) and the gifts of the Spirit (Heart Consciousness).

A Note to Scientists:

For people with a scientific background who are not yet sure if spiritual realities are something that genuinely exist, I suggest after reading the articles in this section that you begin reading the sections on "Near Death Experiences"; "True Angel Stories"; and "True Miracles", so that you can see that we are dealing with a genuine reality that needs to be understood in spiritual terms.

By the way, scientists are going to be a marvelous part of the coming Golden Age of Spiritual Awakening. Your application of the scientific method to understanding spiritual realities is going to be absolutely vital for sorting out the fact from fiction in spiritual teachings. And eventually it will lead to a happier, more complete view of the multi-verse and a greater understanding of the purpose of life.

Blessings on Your Journey of Awakening, My Scientist Friends.
