Jesus Never Claimed to be GOD

As surprising as this may seem to some people, Jesus never, ever claimed that he was GOD!  In fact, one of the things that Jesus made abundantly clear through his teachings and personal behavior, was that he was Child of GOD - a fellow human being - although one who was much, much more spiritually advanced than the rest of us.  And as we will see, Jesus stated this simple truth in so many different ways that were so obvious and straightforward, that there is absolutely no question that Jesus considered GOD to be far greater than himself.

Scriptural Evidence

So let's start with one of the most famous of all of Jesus statements:

By myself I can do nothing; . . . for I seek not to please myself, but him who sent me.

- John 5:30 (NIV)

This quote is often summarized as:

"I of myself can do nothing, it is the Father within that doeth the works."

Here Jesus is not only clearly stating that he is not GOD and that GOD ("him who sent me") was far greater than himself, but also that GOD was the true source of all of his miraculous powers ("I of myself can do nothing").

Jesus Prays to GOD

What else proves that Jesus considered GOD to be far greater than himself?  For one thing, Jesus often prayed to GOD.  This means that, without a doubt he considered GOD to be a vast, transcendent spiritual reality to whom he could pray, and from whom he could receive marvelous divine assistance and inspiration.  The clear message here is that since he didn't pray to himself, but instead always made it clear that he was praying to the "Father, who art in Heaven", this proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Jesus considered GOD to be a separate spiritual entity from himself.

A List of Jesus Quotes

The following is basically a long list of quotes of Jesus in which he makes clear by his own words that he believed that GOD was a far greater Being than Himself.  If you already know this to be the case, or you only need to read a few quotes to be convinced, then please click here when your ready to read how "Jesus Became One In Consciousness With GOD".

Also, when you're ready, please click here to find out how the misunderstanding that GOD and Jesus were the same being, was spread in the first place:  The Council of Nicaea.

In Reference to the "End times":

There were many ways in which Jesus repeatedly expressed in his teachings that he and GOD were two separate beings.  For instance, after Jesus had entered Jerusalem, (just before his arrest and crucifixion), the disciples asked him when the "End Times" would occur.  He replied,

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, only the Father."

- Mark 13:32 NIV

In this quote, Jesus is explaining point blank that even he, "the Son", doesn't know the answer!  Only GOD the Father knows it!  How could Jesus make it any clearer that he and GOD are two separate beings?

Praying to GOD

There are many scriptural references in the Four Gospels which show Jesus praying to GOD, (rather than praying to himself).  For instance, just a few hours before his arrest, knowing that he will soon be crucified, Jesus was earnestly praying in the Garden of Gethsemane:

"My Father, . . . not as I will, but as you will."

- Matt 26:39 NIV

Notice that again, he is not "praying to himself", but to GOD the "Father".  And specifically states, " . . . not as I will, but as you will."  It doesn't get much clearer than that!

During Jesus' Trial

And during Jesus' trial, when he was being cruelly interrogated by Caiaphas, the high priest of the Sanhedrin, (who was trying to frame Jesus for crimes that he hadn't committed):

. . . the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"
"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

- Mark 14:61-62 NIV

Here the high priest, Caiaphas, specifically asks him if he is the "Son of the Blessed One".  It is helpful to note here that Caiaphas wanted to prove that Jesus was making blasphemous claims, and yet notice that Caiaphas doesn't ask Jesus if he claimed to be GOD, which would have served his purposes much better, he only asked, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"  So even, Caiaphas who wants to trap Jesus, knows that Jesus never claimed to be GOD!  And notice that when Jesus is asked, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?", Jesus replies, "I am."  In other words, Jesus affirmed that he was the "Son", not the "Father".  In addition, in this quote Jesus further clarifies that he and GOD are two different beings by definitely stating that he, Jesus, ("the Son of Man") will be sitting on the "right hand of the Mighty One" (GOD).  It's obvious that if Jesus is saying that he is in one place and GOD is in another, then it is clear that he considers himself & GOD to be two different beings.

On Easter Morning

Three days after Jesus had died on the cross, he resurrected himself and walked out of the tomb.  There in the garden one of his devoted followers saw him and tried to touch him, but Jesus said:

"Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "

- John 20:17 NIV

In this quote, Jesus' simply couldn't make it any clearer that he and GOD are two separate beings, and that GOD is something much greater than himself, when he said, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'  It just can't get any clearer than that!!!!

Jesus is our Elder Brother & We're All Brothers & Sisters

Plus, in this same quote Jesus says that his Divine Father, is also our Divine Father: 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'  So there is no longer any question that Jesus is a separate being from GOD; that Jesus is our brother; and that we are all brothers and sisters who share the same heavenly Mother-Father GOD!  It is no wonder that Jesus said:

"Whoever does GOD's will is my brother and sister . . . "

- Mark 3:35 NIV

After Jesus' Ascension

Even after Jesus' Ascension, when Jesus is no longer on the earth, the Apostle Peter, (who, for 3 years, was one of Jesus' constant companions), while sharing the good news of Jesus' life and message, continues to explain that Jesus is a separate being from GOD:

"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by GOD to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which GOD did among you through him, as you yourselves know. . . .  GOD raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him . . . GOD has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.  Exalted to the right hand of GOD, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear."

- Acts 2:22-33 NIV

Over and over in this quote, Peter is saying in various ways that Jesus is a separate being from GOD:

Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by GOD . . .

GOD raised him from the dead . . .

GOD has raised this Jesus to life . . .

Exalted to the right hand of GOD, he has received from the Father . . .

So there is no longer any doubt that Jesus and his disciples considered GOD to be something far greater than themselves.

Why is it so important to establish that:

 • Jesus is a separate being from GOD?

 • And that he was a human being just like us, only more advanced?

 • And that he is our brother?

Because, one of the most important teachings that Jesus wanted us to understand was that we too could eventually achieve what he had achieved!  In other words, Jesus is an example that we are to follow. He is a pattern for us all.  That's why he said the all important words:

"I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father."  (John 14:12 NLT)

This sometimes summarized as:

"All these things that I do, you too shall do, and even greater things than these shall you do."

Thus, We Can Do What Jesus Did!

This means that:

 • We too are Children of GOD, just like Jesus!

 • We too are Beings of Light, just like Jesus!  That’s why he said:

"You are the light of the world . . . "

- Matt 5:14-16 (NIV)

 • And just like Jesus, we too can eventually become "One in Consciousness" with GOD!

 • And eventually, we too can do miracles!  (Although for many of us it will be after we are Ascended.)

 • And most importantly, we too will one day Ascend, (but not necessarily in this lifetime), and thus become Ascended Masters.  Then we will blissfully and eternally serve in the transcendent Ascended Realms of Light under the loving wisdom and direction of Jesus and many of the other Ascended Masters.

Summary:

So it is now clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that:

 • Jesus considered GOD to be much vaster and greater than himself;

 • That Jesus considered himself to be a Child of GOD, just like us, only much more spiritually advanced than us;

 • That eventually we too will be able to do what Jesus did:

"All these things that I do, you too shall do, and even greater things than these shall you do."
