Was Jesus a Man?

Or

Was He GOD?

This a vast and tremendously important topic that is full of misunderstandings.  Believe it or not, who and what Jesus really is, is a wonderfully, hopeful, inspiring message and of extreme importance to understanding our own true natures as sons and daughters of GOD, so don't stop here!

Overview

For those unacquainted with Christianity, it is helpful to know that most Christians are taught that Jesus and GOD are one and the same thing.  So, the question is: "Is Jesus GOD?"

Where Do We Start?

First of all, it may be astonishing to some readers to find out that Jesus never claimed to be GOD.  But he did claim to be a Child of GOD and to be One in Consciousness with GOD.  Plus, he taught that every one of us is also a child of GOD.  The only difference is that Jesus was far more spiritual advanced than we are.  This is because in previous lifetimes, he had been able to achieve full Self-Mastery, Enlightenment, and Self-Realization.  Thus, in his most recent and last physical lifetime - his lifetime as Jesus - he was able to re-awaken to Self-Realization and achieve Self-Mastery again fairly quickly.  Consequently, as "Jesus of Nazareth", he was able to teach us the way to the "Kingdom of GOD" through his own words, miracles and life's example.  Plus, at the end of his life, he was able to Ascend to become an Ascended Master - just like we will eventually do in either this lifetime or a future lifetime!  But, we're getting way ahead of ourselves.

So We Have Two Main Topics to Examine

1) Jesus making it clear that he was a Child of GOD

just like everyone else;

2) And yet simultaneously also making it clear that he

had already merged his consciousness with GOD's

 - that "he and the Father had become One"!

So where do we start to deepen our understanding of these two vital topics?  For clarity's sake, it's probably best to first examine the fact that Jesus never claimed to be GOD.

Jesus Never Claimed to Be GOD

As we have said, Jesus never said that he was GOD.  In fact, he made it clear to us in many, many different ways that he and GOD were two distinct Beings.  Perhaps this is best exemplified in two of his most famous statements:

By myself I can do nothing; . . . for I seek not to please myself, but him who sent me.

- John 5:30 (NIV)

This quote is often summarized as:

"I of myself can do nothing, it is the Father within that doeth the works."

As well as his statement to one of his followers on Easter morning:

"I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." John 20:17 NIV

Then, once we have established this fact beyond all reasonable doubt, (that Jesus and GOD are two distinct Beings), we'll shift our focus to the next idea, that:

Jesus Had Become

"One in Consciousness" With GOD

Sathya Sai Baba has shared with us a fascinating, but little known fact about Jesus: that during the 18 years that are missing from his life in the Bible (the Missing Years), Jesus had traveled to India and gradually achieved "Oneness in Consciousness" with GOD.  This Oneness Consciousness is exemplified by his famous statement,

"I and the Father are One."

- John 10:30 (NIV)

As well as a similar one:

"Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work."

- John 14:10 (NIV)

It's also going to be helpful to examine what it means to achieve this highest level of spiritual consciousness, "Oneness Consciousness", and how by becoming a Master Presence it was correct for Jesus to say:

“I AM the way, the truth, and the life.”

- John 14:6

Plus, we're going to want to look at the implications of the fact that his consciousness had so merged with GOD's, and he had become such a perfect Master, that his daily words and behavior were actually such a perfect and complete outpouring of GOD's Love, Wisdom & Power, that, from one point of view, he could honestly and correctly say:

"Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father."

- John 14:9

So, Which Idea Do You Want to Checkout First?

For those who want to start with the idea that Jesus never claimed he was GOD, please go here: Jesus as a Son of Man.  Technically this is the logical place to start if you are new to the idea that Jesus and GOD are two distinct Beings.

For those who want to start with the idea that Jesus had gradually become "One With GOD" in consciousness, and in the process became one of the greatest spiritual Masters of all time, please go here:  "I and the Father Are One"

Best wishes on this wonderfully inspiring, and marvelously hopeful journey of transcendent self-discovery, because in the process you will also find out what Jesus meant when he said:

"All these things that I do, you too shall do,

and greater things than these you shall do!"

Happy Landings!
